Circa 1914 Mahogany Tall Case clock made by Waltham Clock Co., Waltham, MA.   The case stands 95 " tall, 24 " wide, and 14 1/2" deep.   On the inside of the door is a brass plate dated 1914 with the original owner's name.   The case has never been refinished.     The eight day time and strike works has damascened plates and the front plate is die stamped with the "Waltham Clock Co." signature.    The dial is signed as well in the center of the calendar aperture.   The dial is completely original and has never been refinished.    The original gilded patina remains on the spandrels and the paint on the moon dial is original as well.    The wood selection is remarkable with choice flame mahogany panels, herringbone inlay, urn inlay, shell inlay.  There are fluted columns that flank the bonnet door and fluted columns in the waist as well.    The preface to the 1916 Waltham factory catalog has a special paragraph about their hall clocks .......  In every point mechanism, construction and ornamentation of Waltham clocks are the highest phase of the science and skill of clock making.....   We call special attention to the art and beauty that reside in the clock cases and to the fact that they are slow, affectionate handiwork of the cabinetmakers who are artificers of wide renown.
