The Van Ormand Family, Princeton NJ Simon Willard Crossbanded Banjo Timepiece Circa 1815. Original Dial, movement, frames, chimney, hands, weight, sidearms, chimney, finial, tie down, bezel, pendulum. The glasses are old restorations. The condition and quality of the crossbanded, inlaid frames is outstanding. The wood selection and overall warm patina of the case is wonderful. Typical of the early movements, the works are oversized and mounted to the backboard using through bolts. Note the double or "T" shaped suspension bridge and knife edges to support the suspension block. The painted iron dial mounts with 3 turned screws and is in an excellent state of preservation: completely original, no touch up to the numerals or background. The steel barbed hands are very nicely finished and shaped at the tips.
