Circa 1830 Pennsylvania Pillar & Scroll Shelf Clock with paint decorated metal dial and paint decorated tin panel in the door.    This is a very rare example of a "Brides Clock" celebrating the wedding of  PA German/Austrian family from the Lehigh Valley.    The decorated lower tin depicts the "Upper Austrians" in their "Wedding Clothes."   Note the groom holding a bouquet of flowers for his bride to be.  Original "first finish" mahogany case, with pine & poplar secondary woods.  The single piece, pine backboard slides vertically and is removable.  Original hands, dial, glass, scrolls, feet, & rosettes.   The door frame retains the original lock, escutcheon, and key.   Characteristic PA German wood frame clockworks with brass wheels & steel pinions.  The edge of the frame of the movement is die stamped "SW."   Note the closely related example depicted in Pennsylvania Clockmakers by Dr. James B. Whisker on p. 133.   Another example from the collection of Dr. James Gibbs author of Pennsylvania Clocks & Watches can be viewed on line on page 43 of the special booklet "Pennsylvania Clocks 1750 - 1850" by J.
