Walnut Chippendale full bonnet tall case clock made by John Brokaw, Elizabethtown NJ circa 1790.   The eight day works are "text book" Brokaw with Cherry wood winding drums, tapered steel pillars, count wheel strike train, arched plates, and "Z" streak of lightning strike release.    The beautifully engraved brass dial has applied spandrels, chapter ring, seconds register, and name boss.    The case is from a small group of documented tall clocks crafted with a "full scroll bonnet" in the manner of the fine 18th Century Philadelphia cases.    The  important clock combines the craft of the local New Jersey cabinetmaker.
